Wawa is renowned for eliciting strong feelings from those who grew up with it, even celebrities.

For proof, look no further than Philadelphia’s celebrities who, even when they move away, continue to sing the praises of the Delco-based chain of convenience stores, writes Maria Aspan for Inc. magazine.

On The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, the hip-hop band from Philadelphia, performed an ode to Wawa hoagies.

Tina Fey, the famous actress and comedienne who grew up in Upper Darby, has also mentioned Wawa several times in her Saturday Night Live appearances.

Philadelphia-born comedian Paul Tompkins mentioned in his podcast that Wawa is extremely comforting “and if people don’t appreciate it as much as you do, it feels like you’ve failed somehow in explaining how great it is.”

Finally, Michael Solomonov, the award-winning chef and co-owner of Philadelphia restaurant Zahav, said, “Wawa is the gastronomic security blanket of Eastern Pennsylvania–a source of pride whenever we find ourselves elsewhere“.  “One time I was in Florida and saw a new Wawa being built. I swear I shed a tear.”
