The 245-year-old Concordville Inn in Glen Mills is set to become an inpatient rehabilitation hospital, writes Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The inn is contracted to be acquired by Encompass Health Corp. in Alabama.

The company has received approval from the Concord Township Zoning Hearing Board to for a 50-bed facility.

The Concordville Inn on 20 acres contains a 32,000-square-foot dining and event space and an adjacent 115-room Best Western Plus Concordville Hotel. The hotel is not included in the property sale.

The agreement will be finalized in January.  The inn will lease the space through 2023 and operate to cover its existing event reservations.

The Concordville Inn at Routes 1 and 322 was originally a roadside tavern in 1777 and is a popular historic dining destination for Delaware County.

The dining rooms contain period antique furniture and artifacts. The menu features homemade crab cakes, prime rib, and lobster.

The hotel was added to the site in 1987.

“We believe there is a strong need for enhanced rehabilitation services in the community,” Encompass said in a statement, adding it intends to expand its presence in Pennsylvania.
