Three Delaware County men helped keep alive a wish made by a little girl who wanted to cheer up hospitalized children, writes Rose Quinn for the Delaware County News Network.

Ridley Township Detective Gerard Scanlan Jr., Jeff Tyler of Tyler Transport Solutions in Chester Heights, and Dan Emmerson of Ridley Township continued the legacy of five-year-old Jillian Paige Massey. She died after a hard-fought battle against cancer.

2018 marked the third toy collection and the second since Jillian passed away. They began as the Sassy Massey Toy Drive and are now the Sassy Massey Smiles Foundation.

The final toy drop-off for the year was coordinated by police officers from departments throughout the county. More than 20,000 gifts were donated to the children’s toy drive..

The week-long lineup of toy deliveries to children began at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where Jillian was treated.

Jillian’s mother, Janelle Massey, who refers to the men as Jillian’s own “angels on earth,” planned to ride along for the deliveries.

“It’s all in Jillian’s name,” she said.
