For the third consecutive year, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has ranked second on U.S. News and World Report’s annual list of the country’s top children’s hospitals, writes Hannah Kanik for the Philly Voice.

To determine these rankings, U.S. News and World Report gathered clinical data from close to 200 medical centers, measuring patient safety, protection from infections, and adequacy of nurse staffing. The publication also asked over 15,000 pediatric specialists which hospital they would choose for the sickest children in their specialty.

This second place earned CHOP a spot in the 2021-22 honor roll of the best children’s hospitals.

CHOP ranked as the best hospital in the country for pediatric cancer, pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, and pediatric orthopedics. It came second in pediatric pulmonology and lung surgery and placed third for pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery.

“I am incredibly proud that Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has once again been recognized as a top pediatric institution in the nation,” said CHOP CEO Madeline Bell.

U.S. News also released regional and state rankings for the first time. CHOP ranked as the best children’s hospital for both Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region.
