Fair Acres Geriatric Center in Lima, owned and operated by Delaware County, has been named one of the best nursing homes in the U.S. by Newsweek, writes Max Bennett for patch.com.

The facility ranked 25th among Pennsylvania’s nursing homes on Newsweek’s list of “America’s Best Nursing Homes for 2023.”

Fair Acres was one of 475 facilities featured or 4 percent of the 11,722 nursing homes across the country.

The rankings were based on performance data, peer recommendations, how the facility handled COVID- 19, and the facility’s accreditations.

“Delaware County Council congratulates the hard-working and dedicated staff at Fair Acres, led by Director Bill D’Amico, for this truly well-earned distinction,” Delaware County Councilwoman Christine Reuther said.

“The last few years have been extraordinarily challenging for those who work at long-term care facilities due to the pandemic, and I am proud that our team at Fair Acres has weathered this difficult period with grace and unwavering professionalism.”

Fair Acres handles 874 residents at any given time. It is the largest skilled nursing facility in Delaware County.   It’s been in operation for more than 200 years providing long-term care for adults with a demonstrated need for 24- hour-a-day nursing care.
