Colder weather brings darker, heavier, and stronger beers to Philly, ushered in by fall pumpkin flavors, writes Henry Savage for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The beer flavors range from a sweet, malty Marzens to a pale, crisp festbier more commonly found in Germany.

A top 10 list of Oktoberfest and fall-flavored beers from our region includes one from Delaware County.

Sterling Pig Brewery on W. State State in Media, features its Hocktoberfest beer with a 5.4 percent ABV.

Hocktoberfest is a “smooth and balanced brew”, a traditional Marzen-style lager with a caramel and malty flavor.

“A rich amber-colored beer, it looks as good as it tastes with a clean, fresh finish,” Savage writes.

Sterling Pig Brewery comes from Loic Barnieu of Media, working with accomplished brewer Brian McDonnall.

According to its website, Sterling Pig Brewery brews its eight rotating beers in small batches, tapping directly on-site.

The beers run from IPAs to Porters, from Stouts to Pilsners.

Weyerbacher Brewing Co. in Easton also offers a good fallback beer in its Imperial Pumpkin Ale. The beer is a fall favorite distributed throughout the region.

It tastes of caramel, toasted bread, cinnamon, nutmeg and more.
