Brian McLaughlin, the new owner of the Towne House in Media, is embracing the best elements of its past while adding new and contemporary features, writes Susan Serbin for the Daily Times.

McLaughlin, the North Jersey developer and owner of the Towne House, has big plans for the space.

“Media is a town I’ve adopted,” he said. “It’s a diamond.”

He knows how important the Towne House has become over its 65 years and intends to tailor his renovation to that. He has already begun with the demolition of the Veterans Square main entrance.

“I would have liked to keep the façade as it was, but the portion on the second floor had to be removed to meet borough code,” McLaughlin said.

The renovation will reduce the Towne House by several thousand square feet while creating a 3,000-square-foot, open-air courtyard. Casual and fine dining will be separate, and the large rooms along the Baltimore Avenue side will be available for public and private functions.

McLaughlin hopes to have the bars, casual dining space, and patio open by May, with the fine dining section ready in early fall.
