When Delaware County Community College builds its new $66.5 million Southeast Campus at the former site of Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill, half of it will be paid for by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The rest of the funds will come from fundraising.

The project keeps the façade of the Archbishop Prendergast building at Lansdowne and Garrett roads but converts it to a 7.5-acre satellite campus for the community college.

Plans call for three connected buildings, along with a mostly underground parking garage.

The development will include a gym, a learning center, and a workforce development center.

The satellite campus will have a hospitality center, science labs, classroom space, and a cafeteria.

Construction is expected to take two years, with a groundbreaking set in January or February of 2023.

“It’s brand new, it’s added growth,” said Delaware County Community College President L. Joy Gates Black. “We have the capacity [at the Southeast Campus] and so we’re at a point now where we can just continue to grow and develop.”

Delaware County Community College bought the Prendergast building and land from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 2019.
