After a five-year absence, developers at Drexelbrook Associates returned for a visit to the Upper Darby Township Council in connection to the 100-room hotel they haven’t yet built.

Those plans to connect a Holiday Inn to the popular Drexelbrook Catering and Special Event Center are back on the calendar, according to a Daily Times report by Linda Reilly.

“The Holiday Inn will be a full-service hotel employing 150 to 160 employees during the 12 to 14 months of construction and 31 full-time and 37 part-time employees when it’s completed,” Attorney Joseph Damico said.

Drexelbrook has obtained a zoning variance for the revived hotel, but still needs township council approval, with the biggest concern being increased traffic.

“The future economic benefit to the taxpayers of Upper Darby Township from the proposed hotel should be obvious,” Council President Donald Bonnett wrote. “Real estate tax and business tax revenue streams would be increased because of this project.”
