New Senior Housing in Yeadon has State-of-the-Art Tech

HumanGood's Makemie Court senior housing that just opened in Yeadon Borough

It took eight years, but a housing community for seniors and adults with disabilities, Makemie Court, is open in Yeadon Borough, writes John McDevitt for KYW Newsradio.

HumanGood’s Makemie Court features 44 one-bedroom apartments with smart home technology, including doorbells, door locks, voice-controlled thermostats, and light switches.

Makemie Court was planned to help residents live as independently as possible. It is the 100th community built by HumanGood.

“Residents here can live much the way they want to,” said Vidhi Anderson, HumanGood vice president of development. “You can come in when you want. You can leave when you want. Your guests can come in when they want.”

Each apartment includes Alexa, Nest, and Google Home.

There’s an on-site coordinator to connect residents with healthcare support and wellness classes.

Twelve of the units have automatic door openers.

Eight residents have moved in so far.

Barbara Allison, 82, needs a walker to get around. She appreciates the level one-floor apartment she now has.

“This is such a blessing to me,” she said. “It’s quiet. I just love it. I have an end unit. I can look out and see my deer. I’ve taken pictures of them.”
