The city has named Atif Saeed as the next CEO of the Division of Aviation, a position overseeing Philadelphia International Airport and Northeast Philadelphia Airport, writes Ryan Sharrow for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Saeed replaces Chellie Cameron, who oversaw both airports for six-and-a-half years. She became CEO of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia in June.

“Saeed’s leadership will be critical in helping enhance Philadelphia International Airport’s position as a major economic driver for the city and region, helping to support thousands of jobs,” Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement.

Saeed begins his new appointment Dec. 1.

He is currently CFO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which operates the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and six general aviation airports.

He has also served as director for transportation at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

PHL is recovering from the COVID-19 impact on the travel industry. American Airlines, the largest carrier out of Philadelphia, has been cutting domestic flights in recent months as it copes with staff shortages.

Those cuts include more than 1,800 flights from PHL in September and October.

PHL typically ranks among the top 25 busiest airports in the country.
