Chellie Cameron, the CEO of Philadelphia International Airport and Northeast Philadelphia Airport is stepping down June 24 to become the new president and chief executive of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, writes Erin Arvedlund and Catherine Dunn for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Rochelle “Chellie” Cameron, 53, is the first woman to head the 221-year-old organization. She starts July 11.

Cameron replaces Rob Wonderling, a former Republican state senator and software executive.

“Business is vital to the city, in terms of creating jobs and making an economic impact,” Cameron said in an interview. “We’re working with the mayor, with City Council. This is our moment.”

She will continue the Chamber’s Recharge & Recover Philadelphia initiative, part of which includes cutting wage taxes and the Business Income & Receipts Tax (BIRT) to spur diverse business growth.

Cameron, from Ligonier, Pa., became the airports’ CEO in 2016 after joining PHL in 2011, first as deputy director of aviation, finance and administration, then as chief operating officer.

As PHL CEO, she saw record passenger volume in 2019, the crippling impact of the pandemic, the airport’s recovery, and development of a cargo services expansion program.
