Mare of Easttown devotees will no doubt remember the character of band member Nathan Forde, played by Anthony Norman.

Now Norman, is coming back to Philadelphia next week with a much bigger role as Evan Hansen in the 2022-2023 North American Tour of DEAR EVAN HANSEN, writes Jane M. Von Bergen for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The musical runs Aug 16 through 28 at the Kimmel Cultural Campus’ Forrest Theatre.

In Mare, “I was a recurring character — a very small part in a hit show. Now I have a major part in another hit show,” Norman says.

Mare of Easttown, the hit HBO series set in Delaware County, was the last time Norman was making regular trips to Philadelphia.

“To me, it feels like a big accomplishment in a city I never expected to have such a connection to,” he says.

The musical comes from a play based on an experience composer and lyricist Benj Pasek had growing up in Ardmore as a student at Friends’ Central in Wynnewood.

In 2000, a student was found dead of an overdose. More people mourned him in death than he had friends in life.
