Colleges and universities worldwide have some of the most notable architectural masterpieces and astonishing landscapes, writes Sarah DiMarco for veranda.com.

An attractive campus can be a strong consideration for students looking at colleges.

A recent search for the most attractive campus led to the base of Devil’s Peak in South Africa and to the rolling hills of Georgia.

It also included Swarthmore College, with its stand-out 425-acre arboretum.

Swarthmore College’s campus features an eclectic collection of modern and Collegiate Gothic-style architecture. The buildings are complemented by magnolia trees, hiking trails and an outdoor theater.

The Scott Arboretum on the Swarthmore College campus is often described as one of the most beautiful in the country.

The Arboretum is a living memorial to Arthur Hoyt Scott, who was part of the Swarthmore Class of 1895. It was started by Mr. Scott’s family, who made a generous donation in 1929.

The campus arboretum brings a mix of visitors from the area and across the world, grabbing the attention of students, locals and horticulturalists.

You’ll find 200 varieties of roses at the Dean Bond Rose Garden outside Parish Hall as well as the towering trees of Crum Woods.
