Ridley 1978 Murder Victim Remained Unidentified for 44 Years–Until Now

By

The victim in a 44-year-old cold case murder has finally been identified, thanks to some internet detective work, writes Beccah Hendrickson for 6abc.com.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer and Ridley Township police announced that a John Doe found dead Dec. 13, 1978, is Kevin Carroll.

Carroll was an 18-year-old airman who was discharged from service at McGuire Air Force Base near Trenton, New Jersey shortly before his murder.

He had sent his belongings home to Oregon but never made it back.

With this new information, police are once again asking who killed Carroll.

“They may not have been willing to talk in 1978 or even 1998, but they may be willing to talk today,” Stollsteimer said.

Ridley Township Police found Carroll shot dead in Crum Creek. There was no identity of the murder victim, only a composite sketch.

Decades later, Amelia Pearn discovered a match between the composite information and a profile on NamUs, the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

“The blood type is matching, the scar is matching, the age is matching, the height is matching, the hair color, the eyebrows,” she said.

Pearn runs a website, Veteran Doe, which tracks missing servicemen and women.
