Medical Optometry America (MOA), hoping to one day create a national brand, has opened a new office in Newtown Square, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Medical Optometry America’s new office on West Chester Pike is its second location and the first in the Philadelphia region.

The new office will open early next month. The first office opened in York County more than a year ago.

It plans to open a third practice in Virginia sometime in May, with a fourth site planned somewhere in suburban Philadelphia.

MOA is focusing on nonsurgical eye care conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye, and diabetic retinopathy, says CEO Ken Krieg.

To choose locations, MOA checks out nearby urgent care locations, population density and age of the local population, with a focus on those 55 and older.

“We get a lot of referrals from urgent care centers. They don’t mess with the eye,” he said.

Krieg launched Medical Optometry America in 2018 after working for 15 years as CEO of Physician Recommended Nutraceuticals, later sold to Roundtable Healthcare Partners. They worked with thousands of optometrists.

“I had a ringside seat for learning about the profession,” he said.
