A pediatric urgent care center is coming to Springfield in the fall, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

PM Pediatrics, a New York-based operator of pediatric urgent care centers founded in 2005, is getting ready to open centers in Springfield Township and Wynnewood.  It opened its first Pennsylvania center in Wayne last year and its second in Abington this past summer.

“We definitely have big plans for the Philadelphia-area market,” said Dr. Michael Bachman, vice president of clinical operations.

The Philadelphia area-market has a lot of families with active kids who participate in sports, resulting in sports-related injuries.

“A lot of those injuries happen at night when pediatrician practices are closed,” he said, adding PM Pediatrics urgent care centers are open most days to midnight.

Bachman said their centers differ from general urgent care centers by having physicians and support staff who are trained specifically to deal with the unique needs of pediatric patients, whose age mandate separate treatment protocols and medicine choices.

The centers are also outfitted with medical equipment properly sized for younger patients.

The company operates 40 centers in 10 states and will soon add California as its 11th state.
