Teen Honored After Rescuing Children From Frozen Pond in Collingdale

By

Teenager Anthony Alexander Jr., who rescued three children from a local pond, was honored Monday by Collingdale Borough Council and State Sen. Anthony Williams, reports Fox 29 News.

Anthony Alexander Jr., 16, was playing basketball at Collingdale Park when a little girl asked him for help because her friends were drowning in the lake.

I’m like ‘oh snap this is real!’,” Alexander Jr. said.

He called 911 and ran down to the 8-foot pond, where the three children had fallen through the ice.

He used a thick branch to pull one girl out and dragged a boy to safety.

Collingdale Police Officers Patrick Kilroy arrived and waded into the water, rescuing the third child, an 11-year-old girl.

Officer Kilroy and a second officer were also honored.

“I don’t look at this is anything for me, this is for Anthony Alexander. He was the true hero in the situation,” Officer Kilroy said.

Alexander Jr., the youngest of eight children who’s thinking of joining the Marines, had his proud family at the ceremony.

“He’s always been very, very humble with a huge heart as well. It’s what we’ve loved about him the most,” said step-mom Ava Alexander.
