Elegance and warmth can be found under the watchful eye of Jermaine Mitchell, the owner/operator of the new Room 55 Restaurant & Banquets in Lansdowne, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

Room 55 opened last month. It features in-house dining, in-house catering with rooms for private rental, as well as a take-out window.

Mitchell, a former head chef at the Crystal Tea Room in the Wanamaker Building in Philadelphia, worked a lot of venues before opening Room 55.

He put in 18 years with Finley Catering, starting there at 16 as a dishwasher and working his way up.

Mitchell also has the distinction of being a private chef for NBA players, including Lou Williams, James Harden, and John Wall.

“Room 55 is a very unique place where you can come, get dinner, you can come party, you can come socialize all in a comfortable setting and it gives you that home feeling like you’re in your living room,” Mitchell said.

Fresh ingredients are used for the food, including his shrimp or salmon alfredo, a popular dish made from his own recipe.
