This Villlanova home is designed around cooking and entertaining, a caterer’s home.

And why not? It’s owned by Steve Finley of Finley Catering, one of the largest catering businesses in the Philadelphia region, writes Paul Jablow for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The recently-completed caterer’s home has no formal living room but more of the casualness of a beach home.

“We didn’t want formal,” says wife Carol. “We wanted fun. Clean, easy, minimal.”

There is a large family room next to the inside kitchen. The kitchen has an embedded microwave oven, a Sub-Zero refrigerator, cooled beverage drawers and a walk-in pantry.

An elaborate outdoor kitchen has a six-burner Wolf range, a pizza oven and an outdoor oven with extra-large vents.

The set up allows Steve and Carol to host parties for up to 50 people, friends, relatives, other guests.

The house was designed by Architect Richard Buchanan.

The limestone for the house was salvaged from a Bucks County bank barn with a slate roof.

The 5,800-square-foot, four-bedroom house is “held up by wood and steel, and it required larger volumes than we’d normally use,” Buchanan says.

Steve helped build the 2,000-bottle wine cellar.
