When it took two hours for a pizza to arrive one night, Adam Chain of Radnor knew he needed a new business model when it came to delivering pizzas, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

What he came up with was Muncho.com, a company that offers a hot pizza within 10 minutes within their delivery area.

The trick is to bake the pizza en route in a special van equipped with a pizza oven.

Chain, 28, a Penn State economics graduate, was working at a start-up developing an app for car dealerships when he came up with his new spin on pizza delivery.

“Pizza delivery came out in the ‘50s, and since then, nothing’s really changed,” Chain said. “Why can’t I get a hot pizza delivered when I want it?”

His friend, chef Elijah Milligan, was intrigued but not convinced at first.

“This is ambitious, but it’s innovative. And I think back to when people first heard of Amazon or Airbnb, they were like, ‘This is not going to work,’” he said.

Chain, who was an investment banker for 16 months out of school, convinced four Philadelphia-area investors to put up $150,000 toward the business.
