Graham Partners, a Newtown Square-based private equity firm, has created a six-week internship for 10 professional soccer players and coaches who volunteer with the SWAG soccer program, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The SWAG program is a free inner-city Philadelphia soccer program that helps vulnerable youth get passionate about soccer.

Created in 2018, volunteer professional athletes and coaches have been mentors, coaches, and role models to more than 2,000 children.

The internship gives soccer players and coaches exposure to the business world.

The athletes work with a mentor on deal sourcing and live deals. They get exposure to the everyday processes in private equity and they get to add Graham Partners to their resume. The hope is to give them experience outside of athletics.

“This is our way of helping them prepare for the next phase of their career and acknowledging their dedication to growing the game, serving as role models to children in our city’s most vulnerable neighborhoods,” said Steve Graham, CEO of Graham Partners.

The Graham family is an investor in the Philadelphia Union and supports youth soccer programs.
