Overall, the greater Philadelphia region is a pretty happy place to live, reports USA Today.

The Philadelphia metropolitan area is among the 50 happiest U.S. cities, according to residents. Hristina Byrnes reported our overall community glee for USA Today.

To determine the nation’s upbeat cities, 24/7 Tempo reviewed the happiness score of all 383 nationwide metro areas, using digital health company Sharecare’s Community Well-Being Index.

The index measures residents’ sentiments toward:

  • A sense of purpose
  • Supportive relationships
  • Financial security
  • Good physical health
  • Satisfaction with their community

Sharecare surveyed over 450,000 adults throughout the country, focusing on these five key areas. Its analysts sifted over 600 elements of social determinants of health from additional data sources.

Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington ranked No. 31.

Other than the New York-Newark-Jersey City area that includes a small part of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia is the only Keystone State city to make the list.

The West Coast and Rocky Mountains regions, especially California and Colorado, dominate the rankings. California took the top two spots with San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward and San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara metropolitan areas

The Greater San Francisco area was the top winner the second year in a row. Its residents’ happiness was helped by strong performances in housing and transportation, food access and financial stability.
