Deb Ciamacca, a 63-year-old former teacher and Marine Corps veteran from Media, is on a listening tour.  She’s knocking on hundreds of doors, talking with Republicans and independents, writes Andrew Seidman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Ciamacca is a Democrat who ran unsuccessfully for the 168th District state House seat last year.  This time, though, she’s not canvassing for votes.

She’s trying instead to be an alternative to the polarization, malaise, and tribalism that’s infiltrated American life.

She’s talked to more than 175 people so far.

“I don’t know how we get past this almost civil war-type thing going out there … without doing something like this,” Ciamacca said. “When we go out and talk to people, we feel better. Because it’s too easy just to watch MSNBC and CNN or Fox News, and just, you know, rail against the system. And that’s not getting us anywhere.”

Ciamacca is working with Every District, a Democratic data and elections company to come up with a list of 1,000 voters to talk to, mostly college-educated Republicans who voted for Biden but went Republican on lower-profile races or left lower-profile races blank on their ballots.
