Two Springfield policemen saved an 11-year-old Delaware County boy’s life after his heart stopped beating, writes Joe Holden for CBS3 Philly.

Des Carter and his family thanked Officer Kyle Cutcliff and Sgt. Dave Welsh Tuesday. They responded to the call in late August of a boy with no heartbeat, not breathing.

“Des,” as he’s known, collapsed at a trampoline fun center.

“It’s heart-wrenching to hear that come out on the radio,” Officer Kyle Cutcliff said. “And you know everyone who’s on that radio is coming to that call.”

Several Springfield Township police officers, including Welsh and Cutcliff, performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator. 

They got a pulse and Des started breathing again.

Des has a heart condition and has had surgeries. This is the first time his heart stopped, triggered by a fractured lead to his pacemaker.

Both officers credit their training and say they were just doing their job.

“It is special to see Des and his family come back here and see him running around behind you. That’s not the Des we saw that night,” Cutcliff said. “It couldn’t have ended better.”
