Delaware County communities have been making a lot of top 20 “best of” lists lately when it comes to finding a desirable place to live.

While the city of Philadelphia has plenty to offer, its suburbs can also provide affordability, extra living space and amazing amenities, writes Patrick McNichol for Suburban Solutions.

Here in Delaware County, three communities are getting “best of” positive reviews for unique offerings beyond even that.

Media was crowned the best place to retire near Philadelphia. The suburb with a 5,500 population is also among the most affordable communities on the list.

It offers numerous top-rated attractions including Glen Mills Golf Course, Tyler Arboretum, and Linvilla Orchards.

It also has frequent community events and is highly walkable.

Villanova is the most affluent Philadelphia suburb with a median household income of $159,000. The median home value in Villanova is $1.68 million but there are some smaller, older homes in the $500s.

It is best known for its sprawling estates, stunning architecture, and St. Thomas of Villanova Church.

Meanwhile, Newtown Square is the best suburb in Philadelphia for new construction.

The town has recently experienced a massive boom thanks to new construction. One of its biggest draws is the new Ellis Preserve multi-use space.
