Wedding Planners and Couples Rejoice as State Eases Event Restrictions

By

Caterers and wedding couples are particularly glad to hear Pennsylvania officially loosened restrictions for gatherings and events Monday, reports Katherine Scott for 6abc.com.

With the Drexelbrook Catering and Event Center in Drexel Hill as a backdrop, Scott reported Monday morning that indoor event capacity can now increase to 50 percent.

Outdoor events can have a 75 percent capacity.

Wedding couples can once again send out those invitations.

“It’s been tough on our couples, people postponing one, two, or three times,” says Jeffrey Miller. CEO of Jeffrey Miller Catering.

Miller said it’s looking like a promising summer for weddings and events, especially with so many having to cancel or delay plans.

On Memorial Day, May 31, retail, salons, bars, and restaurants in Pennsylvania can operate at full capacity.

The Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association (PRLA) wants Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf to move that date up to Friday, May 28, for the full holiday weekend.

“You’re talking a Friday, Saturday, Sunday when everyone is out celebrating,” said Ben Fileccia with PRLA. “They want to go out, the restaurant and event folks want to welcome these patrons in.”

Pennsylvania has announced it will follow the recommendation of the CDC and no longer require masks for vaccinated individuals outdoors in crowds and in most indoor settings.

Those who are not vaccinated must still wear masks and social distance until 70% of adults in the state are fully vaccinated.

Right now, about 48 percent of adults in Pennsylvania are fully vaccinated.

The CDC guidance still calls for wearing masks in crowded indoor settings like buses, planes, hospitals, prisons, and homeless shelters.
