Dr. Mead Shaffer Early American Antiques Collection Goes To Auction

Briggs Auction in Garnet Valley is taking online bids for the Dr. Mead Shaffer collection of early American antiques on Friday, Sept. 24.

Dr. Shaffer of Garnet Valley is a preservationist, historian and collector.

The collection includes colonial and early American and regional antiques, colonial cookware, folk and decorative arts.  

“Dr. Shaffer has been a staple in the antiques community for over forty years, and his collection is truly one to be admired,” said Briggs Auction, Inc. owner Stephen Turner.

Dr. Shaffer grew up on a Wayne County farm, which he later gifted to the state.

In 1960, after working as an Army veterinarian, he moved to Delaware County and opened a veterinary practice.

Dr. Shaffer moved to a home on the circa 1721 Booth farm in Bethel, also known as the Garrett-Booth-Cheyney House.

Bidding is available through the Briggs Auction Bid at Briggs platform and through Love Auctioneers.com.  There is also an app in the Apple App Store or on Google Play under Briggs Auction.

Live, in-person previews will take place Wednesday, Sept  22, 1-5 pm; and Thursday, Sept. 23, 1-5 pm, with no appointment needed, at the Garret-Booth-Cheyney House and barn, 1645 Bethel Road, Garnet Valley.
