Musician Earns Family’s Thanks for Soothing Upset Child With Song

By

Matt Atwood used his skills as a musician to sooth an upset autistic child outside the Bryn Mawr Wawa this past weekend. Now he’s received a public thanks from the family, reports Bill Anderson for fox29.com.

He played his guitar and sang, offering a rendition of Hank Williams’ “Lost Highway” to calm the boy down.

Afterwards, the boy’s father, Richard Grudzinski, thanked the man on The Havertown Community Group Facebook page.

“I wish I knew who you were so I could thank you in person with tears in my eyes because I’m overjoyed at the love and attention you showed him helping him calm down,” Grudzinski wrote.

Monday morning, Grudzinski, his wife Crystal and his three-year-old son Mason were able to thank Matt Atwood at the same Wawa.

Atwood, who is homeless, saw Mason was having some issues so he started playing.

“I guess it helped him calm down,” Atwood said. “It just made me feel really good to be able to do something to help.”

Now, the Grudzinski family and the community are looking for ways to offer Atwood some help and return the favor.
