When Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular airs Sunday from 8 to 10 p.m. on NBC, it will include a segment with Lauren Pescatore of Norwood and her Autism Bowling League, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

The segment was filmed in early June at MacDade Bowl, 2105 MacDade Blvd. in Holmes.

“It is certainly an honor to be recognized, but really, I am most appreciative of the attention and awareness it brings to the autism community,” Pescatore stated. “It is important to know that those who live with autism are capable and should have access to the same activities as those who live without autism.”

The non-competitive MacDade Bowl Autism Spectrum League caters specifically to children and adults on the Autism Spectrum. It’s been around for six years.

Participants get to work on social and development skills while having fun bowling together.

This year’s star-filled telecast includes an “American Spirit” segment, focusing on everyday heroes and uplifting personal stories.

Pescatore was interviewed at MacDade Bowl by Juliette Vara, producer of the American Spirit segment.

Olympians Allyson Felix, Simone Manuel, Tatyana McFadden and Jessica Long will also share their stories.
