Cheryl Borrelli of Media and Stacy Hanrahan of Springfield have both written books about raising a child on the autism spectrum, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Delaware County News Network.

Cheryl Borrelli’s life was transformed following the birth of her son Nicky, dealing with a 24/7 world of doctors and therapists, behaviors and struggles.

“I felt like no one really understood,” Borrelli said simply. “We just didn’t seem to fit in anywhere.”

Borrelli began writing letters to her son in a journal, basically writing her first book.   “Dear Nicky, Love Mommy” covers Nicky Borrelli’s first 17 years of life.  A recent second book, “I Speak With My Heart,” chronicles here son’s journey toward adulthood.

In Springfield, Stacy Hanrahan published her first book to foster understanding and acceptance of those who are different.

“The Kent Road Kids Learn a Lesson About Being Different,” tells a true story of her son John’s experience with other young residents of Kent Road in Springfield.

“I wrote ‘The Kent Road Kids Learn a Lesson About Being Different,’ for John and for every boy and girl living with an ASD who courageously face a world that often doesn’t understand or accept their differences,”
