Garnet Valley Schools Take a Look at Coronavirus Vaccine for Kids 12 to 15

By

Garnet Valley School District is considering a Pfizer coronavirus vaccine for kids as young as 12, reports Brad Sattin for fox29.com.

The FDA has approved the use of the vaccine for children ages 12- to 15.

The school district has already been offering a coronavirus vaccine to its high school students, ages 16 and older.

Paula Zimmerman said with the FDA go-ahead, her son will get it.

“I would be very comfortable having him get the vaccine and I’ll sign him up as soon as I can,” Paula remarked.

She would like school districts to require the vaccine for middle and high schoolers, like other vaccines.

Garnet Valley has already made shots available for hundreds of students 16 and older.

Parents with younger students were polled by the school district Friday.

“We have about 700 responses. And, 93 percent of the parents want their children vaccinated,” said Garnet Valley Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marc Bertrando.

He added that the district does not have the legal authority to mandate coronavirus vaccinations for teachers or students.

Not everyone supports the idea. One man who asked to remain anonymous, commented, “I just think it’s unnecessary and we don’t have the long term side effects” .
