Delaware County Had 71 New Cases of COVID-19 Reported Wednesday, 8 Deaths

Eight new COVID-19-related deaths in Delaware County have been reported Wednesday, May 26, according to the Chester County Health Department.

The health department is reporting a total of 1,445 COVID-19-related deaths in Delaware County.

Of those, 838 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes.

One fatality was reported in Chester,  1 in Nether Providence, 1 in Ridley, 1 in Springfield, 1 in Upper Chichester, 1 in Darby Township, 1 in Brookhaven, and 1 in Tinicum.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 48 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

New cases

The Chester County Department of Health site reported 71 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County Tuesday, May 25. Total cases are 48,792.

Prospect Park continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 740, affecting 11.39 percent of its 6,492 population.

Upper Darby has the most total cases, with 7,250 cases reported, or 8.74 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

Negative tests

The county has had 245,602 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 93.92 percent recovery rate.

  • Under 10: 2,480 cases
  • 10 to 19: 5,903 cases
  • 20 to 29: 8,169 cases
  • 30 to 39: 7241 cases
  • 40 to 49: 6.559 cases
  • 50 to 59: 7,335cases
  • 60 to 69: 5,646 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,787 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,671 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, May 26, there were 1,127 new cases of COVID-19 statewide.  Total cases now number 1,198,595.

The state is reporting 38 COVID-19 deaths for Wednesday, May 26. Total deaths are 27,123.
