Charles H. DeMirjian of Media, Who Led Successful Ad Campaigns for du Pont, Has Died at 95

A Media Borough man responsible for the marketing campaigns behind Rain Dance car care products, Corian countertops, and Stainmaster flooring, died March 8 at age 95, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Charles H. DeMirjian was a marketing innovator at E.I. duPont de Nemours Co.

The creative artist spent 37 years at du Pont, from 1954 until his retirement in 1991. He rose to marketing and communications director for the consumer products division.

His campaigns won him three CLIO Awards.

Mr. DeMirjian created the Charles DeMirjian Collection at the Hagley Museum in Wilmington. The collection included examples of DuPont packaging and advertising.

 “He was creative and energetic, and he saw people for who they were,” said his daughter, Susan.

Mr. DeMirgian was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Philadelphia. He was the son of Armenian immigrants, who survived the Armenian Genocide.

He was a Marine veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater. He used the GI Bill to study art and advertising.

He  married Diane Zobian, of the Armenian Martyrs’ Congregational Church in Havertown. Mr. DeMirjian joined the congregation.

They raised a daughter and two sons, and lived in West Philadelphia, Swarthmore and Media.
