Newtown Square-based Catalyst Outdoor Advertising is hoping to construct a monument-like electronic billboard in Tredyffrin Township, but a number of residents are pushing back, writes Erin McCarthy for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Thaddeus Bartkowski, the founding partner of Catalyst, presented plans for a 20-foot-tall electronic structure during a recent board meeting. The billboard would be placed on a tract, located at the intersection of Route 252 and Lancaster Avenue, that is currently occupied by a clock repair shop and a traditional billboard.

The proposed structure would have a reflecting pool with flowers and plants that would change with the seasons and fancy lettering that would spell out “Tredyffrin.” It would also include the township seal.

The billboard would rotate advertisements and public service announcements on two bright screens.

However, many residents do not like the idea.

“That intersection is incredibly dangerous as it is,” said Caroline Ellison.

Pattye Benson, president of the Tredyffrin Historic Preservation Trust, started a petition that drew more than 2,200 signatures. She also has a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for lawn signs.

Benson said she hopes her efforts will persuade the township to not approve the project.
