At 217 New Positive COVID-19 Cases for Wednesday, Delaware County Still Trending Higher

Updated records from the Chester County Health Department for Wednesday, April 21, are still trending higher, and added 15 fatalities to Delaware County’s total COVID-19-related deaths.

As of Wednesday, the health department was reporting a total of 1,371 COVID-19-related deaths in Delaware County.

Of those, 826 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes.

Three deaths were reported from Glenolden, 2 from Chester, 2 from Aldan, 1 from Media, 1 from Lansdowne, 1 from Brookhaven, 1 from Norwood, 1 from Sharon Hill, 1 from Chadds Ford, 1 from Rutledge, and 1 from Lower Chichester.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 46 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

The health department also reported the numbers are trending higher, with 217 new positive cases of COVID-19 for Wednesday, April 21.  Total cases, as of April 21, are 45,632.

Prospect Park continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 724, affecting 11.15 percent of its 6,492 population.

Upper Darby has the most total cases, with 6,745 cases reported, or 8.13 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 952 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 229,529 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 87.6 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Wednesday, April 21, are:

  • Under 10: 2,149 cases
  • 10 to 19: 5,309 cases
  • 20 to 29: 7,664 cases
  • 30 to 39: 6,729 cases
  • 40 to 49: 6.173 cases
  • 50 to 59: 6,969 cases
  • 60 to 69: 5,357 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,665 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,612 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, April 21, there were 4,602 new cases of COVID-19 statewide. Total cases now number 1,121,470.

The state is reporting 60 additional COVID-19 deaths for April 21. The statewide death toll is  25827.
