Saturday Night Live: ‘Mare’ Parody Accents Delaware County Influence

By

If Delaware County wasn’t getting enough attention already from HBO’s ‘Mare of Easttown’ series, a Saturday Night Live parody trailer is bound to do the trick, writes Danya Henninger for billypenn.com.

The comedy skit, “Murder Durder’ was livestreamed globally.

Mare of Easttown’ covers a detective working in the fictional town of Easttown. Writer and director Brad Ingelsby, from Berwyn, said the series takes place in a fictional Delaware County town.

Series reviews are good, but it’s the peripheral stories generating national discussion.

‘Mare’ lead Kate Winslet’s struggled to learn the Delco accent. There’s also her newfound fascination with Wawa.

So it was only a matter of time before Saturday Night Live jumped in.

And it doesn’t hurt that SNL alum Tina Fey happens to be from Upper Darby.

The skit presents itself as a trailer for the series “Murder Durder”.

It features SNL cast member Kate McKinnon as a “a grizzled lady detective…with a very specific accent.”

McKinnon, donning a thick (supposedly) Delco accent, opens the trailer talking about finding the body of someone’s daughter (durder).

“Murder Durder: An extremely Pennsylvania crime show,” reads the overlay.
