State Plans Regional Center to Boost Vaccinations in Delaware County

The Philadelphia suburbs will be getting a state regional vaccine site to speed up vaccine deliveries, writes Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

State officials say the counties are “prime to secure” a regional vaccine site and could see a boost in doses within two weeks.

Acting Health Secretary Alison Beam asked local leaders to reach a consensus on a centralized location to house the clinic.

Pennsylvania Gov. Wolf wants everyone in the state with a 1A designation to have a vaccination appointment by the end of March. 

The acting secretary signed an amended order giving state vaccine providers until March 31 to schedule every 1a person on their waiting lists for appointments “as far into the future as necessary.”

Providers who try to move on to lower priority groups before 1A is complete could lose their vaccine allocation.

Leaders in Delaware, Chester, Montgomery and Bucks counties say it will take three to five months to inoculate 1As.

President Joe Biden, who was in Delaware County yesterday, said every U.S. adult will be eligible to sign up for a vaccine shot by May 1.
