Wall Street Journal: This Delaware County Small College Made Top 10 List for the Northeast

Swarthmore College is among the top 10 small colleges in the Northeast, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.

Swarthmore College came in fourth among the top small colleges in the Northeast and No. 30 in the overall nationally.

The ranking is based on 15 key metrics across four main categories. These included student outcomes, academic resources, student engagement, and environment. Schools with fewer than 3,000 undergraduates were considered too small for this ranking.

The school ranked highest overall for resources, coming in at No. 28. In outcomes, Swarthmore placed in No. 47, while it was at No. 48 for engagement.

The liberal arts school ranked lowest in the environment, coming in at No. 98.

Swarthmore has 1,640 students and a student to faculty ratio of eight to one. Tuition and fees cost $52,588, while room and board cost $15,474.

According to the survey, the average salary 10 years after entering college is currently $52,567, with student debt after graduation hovering around $20,000.
