Martin McGuinn has given a $10 million gift to Villanova University.

Student veterans and faculty research both got a $10 million boost at Villanova University after former Fortune 500 bank executive and Villanova University alum Martin McGuinn gifted the funds to the university,  writes Michelle Caffrey for Philadelphia Business Journal.

He has now donated $15.7 million to Villanova, with previous gifts going to endowed scholarships and an Irish scholars program.

One of the six residence buildings at The Commons will be named after McGuinn.

Faculty research is a key part of the university’s 10-year strategic plan. Seventy percent of the donation, $7 million, will go there, including $2 million for faculty at the Charles Widger School of Law.

“Villanova is thriving now under the leadership of Father Peter [Donohue,] and my gift is intended to support him and the new Strategic Plan, which I am convinced will take Villanova—and the Law School—to new heights.” McGuinn said.

The remaining $3 million will expand Villanova’s Yellow Ribbon program, which pays tuition or fees for student veterans not covered by GI Bill education benefits.

McGuinn spent three years as a U.S. Marine Corps captain, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.
