Rates of New COVID-19 Cases Reported Continue to Drop for County and State From Earlier in the Week

The Chester County Health Department is reporting a total of 33,306 positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County as of Friday, Jan. 22, an increase of 165 cases.

Four more COVID-19 death were reported from Darby Borough, for a new total of  1,076. Fatalities were reported from Marple, Haverford, Yeadon and Chester.

Of total deaths reported, 719 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 46 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 991, or 8.62 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 5,059 cases reported, or 6.1 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 735 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 189,782 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 81.96 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Friday, Jan.22 are:

  • Under 10: 1,205 cases
  • 10 to 19: 3,281 cases
  • 20 to 29: 5,687 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 4,914 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 4,535 cases
  • 50 to 59: 5,217 cases
  • 60 to 69: 4,115 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,112 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,237 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Jan.22 that there were 5,338 additional cases of COVID-19 reported, for a new total of 794,172.

 There were 193 additional deaths for a new total of 20,321.
