Major Jump in COVID-19 Deaths for Delaware County, Updated List Adds 25

The number of COVID-19 related deaths listed for Delaware County jumped from 1,024 reported Tuesday to 1,049 for Wednesday, according to statistics from theChester County Health Department.

Of the 1,049 deaths reported to date, 704 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes.

Deaths were reported from: 6 from Haverford, 2 from Middletown, 2 from Marple, 2 from Chester, 2 from Concord, 2 from Clifton Heights, 2 from Glenolden, 1 from Upper Darby, 1 from Yeadon, 1 from Ridley, 1 from Upper Chichester, 1 from Upper Providence, 1 from Ridley Park, and 1 from Lower Chichester

At the same time, 259 positive COVID-19 cases were added Wednesday to the health department’s total cases reported, from 31,361 Tuesday to 31,620 on Wednesday.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 46 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 964, or 8.38 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,803 cases reported, or 5.79 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 698 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 184,377 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 79.38 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Wednesday, Jan.13 are:

  • Under 10: 1,113 cases
  • 10 to 19: 3,080 cases
  • 20 to 29: 5,444 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 4,661 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 4,302 cases
  • 50 to 59: 4,962 cases
  • 60 to 69: 3,899 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,008 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,148 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Jan.13, that there were 7,960 additional cases of COVID-19 reported, for a new total of 741,389.

 There were 349 additional deaths for a new total of 18,429.
