Lansdowne EMT Puts Her Own Health on the Line to Save Others

By

A weakened immune system isn’t keeping a Lansdowne EMT from fulfilling her mission to save lives in the pandemic, reports Beccah Hendrickson for 6abc.com.

“If every person that has medical issues in their life decides to quit, then there’s going to be not many people left to help the people that need it,” said Kimberly Ewing, who works for the Lansdowne Fire Company.

Ewing’s taking every precaution since she’s immunocompromised. Even so, her 16-year-old daughter worries.

“It’s been scary and hard because she has to stay safe on the ambulance with the COVID-19 patients she sees on the ambulance daily,” said Sarah. She’s studying hard so she can follow her mother and one day become a nurse.

“I’ve lost half my freshman year, all of my sophomore year, I’ve missed many dances, but in the end, it’s worth it to keep everyone safe,” Sarah said.

Ewing’s status as a frontline worker did mean she was able to get the vaccine, helping her feel a little safer.

“I’m very grateful,” she said.

Sarah’s definitely proud of her mother’s work.

“Saving people’s lives. Not many people can say they do that every day,” she said.
