84 Additional Deaths Reported in COVID-19 Statistics Thursday for Delaware County

The Chester County Health Department provided an updated death toll for Delaware County Thursday, adding 84 COVID-19 deaths to the total number of fatalities, now listed at 1,170.

For the 84 new deaths reported, 14 were in Marple, 9 were in Nether Providence, 8 were in Haverford, 6 were in Middletown,  6 were in Springfield, 5 were in Upper Darby, 5 were in Chester, 3 were in Radnor, 3 were in Ridley, 3 were from an unknown location, 3 were in Upland, 2 were in Concord, 2 were in Newtown, 2 were in Bethel, 2 were in Upper Chichester, 2 were in Aston, 1 was in Media, 1 was in Upper Providence, 1 was in Brookhaven, 1 was in Norwood, 1 was in Folcroft, 1 was in Edgmont, 1 was in Chester Township, 1 was in Thornbury, and  1 was in Yeadon.

Of total deaths reported, 761 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes.

There were 159 new positive COVID-19 cases reported Thursday in Delaware County by the Chester County Health Department.

That brings the total number of cases to date to 34,432.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 45 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 1,019, or 8.86 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 5,200 cases reported, or 6.27 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 752 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 192,897people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 82.65 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Thursday, Jan.28 are:

  • Under 10: 1,288 cases
  • 10 to 19: 3,395 cases
  • 20 to 29: 5,845 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 5,079 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 4,699 cases
  • 50 to 59: 5,371cases
  • 60 to 69: 4,272 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,188 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,292 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Jan.28 that there were 6,036 additional cases of COVID-19 reported, for a new total of 824,405.

 There were 198 additional deaths for a new total of 21,303.
