President Joe Biden was directly asked for help getting more vaccines to Delaware County when he visited Chester on Tuesday, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

“I had a very brief moment to speak with President Biden on his visit (Tuesday). I did request a FEMA site here for Delaware County,” said Brian Zidek, chairman of Delaware County Council..

Zidek was part of an entourage of federal, state and local officials who met the president at Philadelphia International Airport.

Biden landed in Delaware County amid a dispute between Philadelphia’s four suburban collar counties and the state over a shortage of vaccines in the area.

Zidek said he also talked vaccines with Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf at the gathering.

County officials continued with the Pennsylvania Department of Health on Wednesday.

In that call, officials suggested the state send more doses to existing government-run clinics in the four counties, rather than set up a single mass vaccination clinic, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The combined counties can vaccinate up to 100,000 people a week, whereas a mass vaccination site would give out about 42,000 shots a week.
