5 More Deaths, 53 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Delaware County

Five new COVID-19-related deaths were reported Wednesday, June 9, according to the Chester County Health Department.

The health department is reporting a total of 1,449 COVID-19-related deaths in Delaware County.

Of those, 839 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes.

One death was reported from Middletown, 1 from Chester, 1 from Radnor, 1 from East Lansdowne and 1 from Rose Valley.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 48 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

New cases

The Chester County Department of Health site reported 53 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County Wednesday, June 9, since Monday.

Positive cases increased from 49,772 cases reported June 7 to 49,825 on June 9.  

Prospect Park continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 753, affecting 11.59 percent of its 6,492 population.

Upper Darby has the most total cases, with 7,424 cases reported, or 8.95 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 1,000 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

Negative tests

The county has had 250,287 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 95.66 percent recovery rate.

  • 10 to 19: 6,054 cases
  • 20 to 29: 8,418 cases
  • 30 to 39: 7,413 cases
  • 40 to 49: 6.725 cases
  • 50 to 59: 7,491 cases
  • 60 to 69: 5,724 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,799 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,674 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, June 9, there were 496 new cases of COVID-19 statewide. Total cases now number 1,206,935.

The state is reporting 22 COVID-19 deaths for Wednesday, June 9. Total deaths are 27,417.
