Reported Positive Cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County Up by 301, According to Health Department

The Chester County Health Department reported 28,046 positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County for Tuesday, Dec. 29.

On Monday, Dec. 28, it reported 27,745 positive cases in the county.

Total COVID-related deaths in the county now number 973. 

Three additional deaths were reported in Marple, two were reported in Haverford Township, two in Concord, two in Bethel, two in Ridley, two in Darby Township, one in Upper Darby, one in Chester, one in Media, one in Brookhaven, and one in Glenolden.

Of those, 675 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 43 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 925, or 8.06 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,356 cases reported, or 5.24 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 612 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 176,226 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 72.51 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Tuesday, Dec. 29 are:

  • Under 10: 926 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,690 cases
  • 20 to 29: 4,895 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 4,121 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 3,862 cases
  • 50 to 59: 4,410 cases
  • 60 to 69: 3,429 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,778 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,932 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Dec. 29, that there were 8,545 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, with the total number of cases now at 622,349.

There were 267 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, with total deaths for Tuesday, Dec. 29, reported at 15,353.
