Rohinton Morris, M.D., chief of cardiothoracic surgery at Jefferson Health is heading to Tower Health to serve as the chief there, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Tower Health is based in Berks County and oversees Pottstown Hospital.

On why he is making the move, Morris said that he has grown frustrated with the administrative challenges that larger health systems like Jefferson have to face.

“When I first started at Jefferson it was a three-to-five hospital system. Then, over the last few years, it’s grown to an 18-hospital system and now it may be getting even larger. I felt frustrated as a physician with the layers of administration that block us from actually delivering quality and high-value health care,” he said.

What excites him about Tower Health he said is the trust the administrators have for the doctors on the front line caring for the patients.

He added that they understand how health care is delivered and how it can be improved, and give staff the resources to make positive changes.

Tower Health continues to be besieged with financial difficulties, but Morris said the future of the health system looks bright.
