Holiday Dance Tradition Continues at Newtown Square Studio

By

Dancers from Twirl dance studio in Newtown Square were just able to finish their digital dance performance before a state order closed down their in-person activity, reports Katharine Scott from 6abc.com.

Last year, students brought their live show to six local nursing homes. The show is an annual tradition.

This year, with the pandemic, they had to think outside the box, so they produced a digital performance.

Work started in the fall, featuring everything from tap to jazz.

The two-week recording featured all the students,  whether performing virtually at home or in person at the studio.

Studio dancers were socially distanced in squares and the virtual student edited in, explained studio owner Sam Sinns.

Bianca Salerno, 11, of Haverford, said the holiday dance is important for nursing home residents, especially this year.

“Maybe they can’t see their own grandchildren for the holidays, so it’s important for them to see children, and maybe that can give them memories of their own grandchildren,” Bianca said.

Salerno’s father is assigned to the COVID-19 service unit at Temple University Hospital, and has had to stay away from home at times to prevent the spread of the virus.
