COVID Cases in Delaware County Still Hovering Close to 300 as 1 More Death Is Reported

The number of new positive COVID cases reported Wednesday, Dec. 16 in Delaware County stayed close to 300, at 296, according to the Chester County Health Department.

On Tuesday, the Chester County Health Department reported 24,518 positive cases in the county. On Wednesday, that number was 24,814.

One additional COVID death was reported Wednesday from Glenolden, with total fatalities county-wide now at 897.

Of those, 652 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 42 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 868, or 7.56 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 3,901 cases reported, or 4.7 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 553 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 168,673 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 69.03 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Wednesday, Dec. 16 are:

  • Under 10: 788 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,376 cases
  • 20 to 29: 4,429 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 3,650 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 3,399 cases
  • 50 to 59: 3,868 cases
  • 60 to 69: 2,986 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,564 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,752

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Dec. 16, that there were 10,049 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, with the total number of cases now at 519,369.

There were 278 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, with total deaths for Wednesday, Dec. 16, reported at 13,168.
